Ozonated Glycerin Protocol

Uses, mixing strengths, nebulizer set-up and precautions for ozonated glycerin, which needs no generator.

Quick answer: Ozonated glycerin is glycerin infused with ozone at about 10,000 ppm, and it needs no generator. The sheet uses it as a 10% nasal spray and in a nebulizer starting at 2.5%.

What are the basics of ozonated glycerin?

Ozonated glycerin is glycerin infused with ozone, at about 10,000 ppm (parts per million, a strength label on the bottle). It works much like ozonated oil, with one big difference: it dissolves in water. So it mixes with saline, water or lotion and goes where oil can't: a nasal spray, a nebulizer, a mouth rinse or a drink. No generator is needed where it's used.

Most of what we know comes from clinical use. Published studies on ozonated glycerin itself are limited, so practitioners lean on the research on ozonated oils.

Where it fits in a clinic

  • In the office: a nebulizer or nasal spray session needs no gas line and no tank, and can run while a patient is in the chair for another service.
  • Take-home: it's the easiest ozone to send home. No generator, no oxygen, so patients keep going between IV visits.

How do you use ozonated glycerin in a nebulizer?

Accessories required:

  • A plug-in compressor (jet) nebulizer with a face mask. Not mesh or ultrasonic: glycerin clogs the mesh, and ultrasonic units don't mist it reliably.
  • A 1 mL oral syringe for the glycerin and a 10 mL syringe for the water. Label them.
  • A small glass cup for mixing.

Step by step

  1. Measure the ozonated glycerin with the 1 mL syringe into the glass cup. For a 5 mL cup at 2.5%: 0.125 mL glycerin plus 4.875 mL distilled water.
  2. Add the water and swirl 2–3 minutes until the liquid looks even.
  3. Pour into the nebulizer cup and attach the mask.
  4. Turn on the compressor; mist appears within seconds.
  5. Breathe normally, sitting upright, until the cup is empty (10–15 minutes).
  6. Rinse the cup and mask with warm water and air dry.

Nebulizer amounts follow published practitioner guidance, including Dr. Robert Rowen's, which starts at 1–2.5% and allows up to 5 mL twice a day.

What are other ways to use ozonated glycerin?

  • By mouth: it can also be mixed into cooled tea or coffee instead of water.
  • Mouthwash: add a drop of peppermint oil if you like.
  • Scalp: put a small amount in your palm and massage it in.
  • Eye drops: being explored for conjunctivitis and other eye infections. The eyes are sensitive, so eye use should be guided by a qualified practitioner.

Can I use ozonated glycerin on my dog?

We found no animal studies of ozonated glycerin, so there is no tested dose for dogs. Ask your veterinarian before using it. For what is known about ozone in pets, see the dogs and cats protocol.

How is ozonated glycerin made?

It is made by bubbling ozone from pure oxygen through glycerin under controlled conditions. That takes an ozone generator and a way to measure the result, so it is not a home recipe. Buy it from a maker that states the strength and tests it.

Is ozonated glycerin safe? Side effects and precautions

  • Never nebulize it undiluted.
  • If the mist feels heavy, or the nose stings, stop and drop back a strength next time.
  • Too much by mouth at once can loosen stools; take less.
  • Try a small patch of skin first.
  • Mix fresh. Keep leftovers in the fridge and use within 24 hours.
  • Never use tap water in the nose or the nebulizer.

What to look for in a product: made with pure oxygen (not room air or a concentrator), lab-grade glycerin, a stated and tested concentration, and made fresh.

Contraindications

Do not use ozonated glycerin during pregnancy. Check with your healthcare provider before starting, especially if you have a heart or bleeding condition or take blood thinners.
