Vaginal Ozone Insufflation Protocol

Dosing, schedule and precautions for vaginal ozone insufflation.

Quick answer: Vaginal ozone insufflation is a practitioner protocol that gives ozone gas through the vagina. It uses 17–40 µg/mL for 5–10 minutes at 1/8–1/4 LPM, 2–5 times a week.

What are the basics of vaginal ozone insufflation?

  • Concentrations generally range from 17–40 ug/mL (gamma).

What dose and schedule are used for vaginal ozone insufflation?

3–43x per week8 minutes1/8–1/4 LPM20–35 gamma
5+5x per week10 minutes1/8–1/4 LPM25–40 gamma

The weeks column is how long to stay on that regimen. Start extremely slowly with these applications. It is a powerful modality. If you know you are sensitive, cut the starting points in half and slowly work your way up.

What equipment is needed for vaginal ozone insufflation?

  • Ozone generator
  • Oxygen tank
  • Oxygen tank regulator (usually comes with the generator)
  • Vaginal insufflation kit

If a regimen also includes rectal or IV ozone, they are typically not done on the same day.

What are the precautions for vaginal ozone insufflation, and who should avoid it?

  • If there is negative feedback or discomfort, reduce time and frequency to a tolerable level.
  • Vaginal insufflation can release more gas into the air than other methods. Don't breathe the gas: use a well-ventilated space and a fan if needed.
  • There's no hard data comparing vaginal and rectal insufflation, but many believe it is similar: systemic, plus local to the reproductive system.
  • Use a good-quality, body-safe lubricant if needed to prevent dryness, especially with daily use.
  • Titration is critical to find what works and to gauge reactions.
  • A "Herx" is possible. Consult a physician first; they may advise vitamin C, glutathione, activated charcoal and more. If it happens, stop for 4–7 days and restart at half the gamma, frequency and time.
  • If there is cramping, bloating or gas, decrease the dose and frequency to a tolerable level.
  • A Herx can show up as excessive fatigue, rash, and/or fever or chills.
